150 million euros from the European Parliament for the Syrians in Turkey

The European Parliament’s Budget Committee has approved an additional €150 million for the refugee support program in Turkey.

The European Parliament’s Budget Monitoring Committee announced its acceptance with 29 “yes” votes to amend the European Union’s budget for 2021 and provide additional humanitarian support for Syrian refugees in Turkey.

Noting that Turkey hosts nearly 3.7 million Syrians, the statement noted that the aforementioned budget change aims to continue humanitarian assistance to vulnerable people.

It will finance €150 million in cash support under the Social Cohesion Assistance Program (ESSN) for asylum seekers in Turkey.

In order for the budget amendment to enter into force, it must also be approved by the General Assembly of the European Parliament.
