The Presidency of the Turkish Immigration Department revealed that the total number of immigrants present throughout the country has reached 4,893,753 people to date.
In a statement on Sunday, it added that the percentage of immigrants in 1,169 neighborhoods across Turkey has so far exceeded 20 percent of the total number of Turkish residents in those neighborhoods.
The statement stated that in order to reduce the concentration of residents there, the door to register new foreigners in those neighborhoods was closed.
It confirmed that 54 of these neighborhoods are in Istanbul.
The Immigration Department indicated that it updated the numbers and statistics related to foreigners residing in the country on a weekly basis through its website “goc.gov.tr”.
