Turkish coast guard rescues 177 irregular migrants

Turkish Coast Guard teams rescued 177 irregular migrants off the coast of Mugla (southwest) and Izmir (west), bordering the Aegean Sea.

The Coast Guard Command said in separate statements Friday that its teams rescued 82 migrants off Marmaris district and 19 others off Bodrum district in Mugla.

The command indicated that other teams rescued 39 migrants off Dikili district and 37 others off Çeşme district in Izmir.

It revealed that these migrants were forcibly returned to Turkish territorial waters after being intercepted by Greek forces at sea.

Coast Guard teams took the migrants ashore, then handed them over to immigration officials.
