Turkey ranks first in the production of oriental tobacco

Turkey maintains the fifteenth place in world tobacco production and the first place in the production of oriental tobacco.

According to the statement issued by the Aegean Exporters Associations, the volume of exports reached $910 million last year.

In the January-May period of this year, tobacco leaf exports fell by 27 percent compared to the same period the previous year and amounted to $79 million.

Turkey maintains the fifteenth place in world tobacco production and the first place in the production of oriental tobacco.

“Nearly 60 thousand families in Turkey make their living from tobacco”

The President of the Aegean Tobacco Exporters Association Omar Jalal Omar, whose views were included in the statement, stated that tobacco is still an important product for the Turkish economy.

Omar said that a total of 82,000 tons of tobacco leaves were produced in Turkey in 2020, about 90 percent of which consisted of oriental tobacco.

Adding, “57 percent of this production, 55 percent of the total number of producers is in the Aegean region. In Turkey, nearly 60,000 families earn their living from tobacco.

The population working in the tobacco and tobacco industries is one million people, including family members.

Israel, Iraq, and Turkmenistan stand out in exports

Or emphasized that the United States of America ranks first with a 28 percent share of tobacco leaf exports, followed by Indonesia, Belgium, and Poland, and continued as follows:

“The foreign exchange contribution of tobacco leaves for which the unit export price is very high compared to many agricultural products is very high.

And when the exports of tobacco products in the same period are analyzed by country, our three export markets are Israel, Iraq, and Turkmenistan.

Especially our exports to Turkmenistan are about 10 cards compared to the previous year, “Exports of tobacco products increased to 8 million dollars.

Cigarettes are at the top of our list of tobacco product exports amounting to $192 million, with exports of $117 million.

For exports of tobacco products, markets generally differ according to the purchasing policies of international companies.”
