Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu held a telephone conversation with his Azerbaijani counterpart Jehun Bayramov on the recent “Armenian provocations”.
This came in a phone call between them on Tuesday, according to a tweet by Çavuşoğlu on his Twitter account.
The Turkish minister said that he discussed with his Azerbaijani counterpart “Armenian provocations”, in the wake of the clashes that took place on the border between the forces of the two countries.
Çavuşoğlu called on Armenia to abandon provocations and focus on cooperation and peace negotiations with Azerbaijan within the framework of the agreement they reached after the recent Karabakh battles.
On Monday evening, the Azerbaijani Defense Ministry announced the outbreak of intense border clashes as a result of provocations from the Armenian side.
It noted in a statement that the Azerbaijani army, in turn, took the necessary measures to silence the Armenian sources of fire and prevent the expansion of clashes.
It confirmed that the Armenian forces participating in the provocative operations incurred losses in life and equipment.
Azerbaijan reported that the Yerevan government bears all responsibility for the clashes and losses and that additional information will be provided to the public at a later time.
