YouTube announced its intention to open a representative office in Turkey, through a statement they made, stating that the company has always been keen to comply with local laws and regulations in the countries in which it operates, while maintaining its commitment to transparency, freedom of expression and access to information.
The statement indicated that the new obligations imposed on social media platforms by Law No. 5651 (Law on Regulating Internet Broadcasting and Combating Crimes Committed through These Publications) have been examined from all sides during the past few months, and the following statement was made:
“At YouTube, we are always keen to comply with local laws and regulations in the countries in which we operate, while maintaining our commitment to transparency, freedom of expression and access to information. Over the past few months, we have examined all aspects of the new obligations imposed on social media platforms under Law No. 5651 recently issued.
We know that it is important for content producers and YouTube users in Turkey, every day tens of thousands of content producers on YouTube create a lot of interest in the world that we are watching now. Realizing this and adhering to our principles, we decided to embark on the process of designating a local legal entity for YouTube. We participated with officials in Turkey, and we are happy to make this decision. “
