US officials announced Friday that the US military has vacated Bagram Air Base, handing it over to the Afghan National Defense and Security Forces, after nearly two decades.
And the agency “Associated Press” quoted US officials (unnamed) as saying that “the air base in the center of the country has been handed over to the Afghan National Security and Defense Forces in full.”

“The commander of the US-led international coalition in Afghanistan, General Austin S. Miller, still retains all capabilities and authority to protect forces,” one official added.
It was not specified when the forces left the base, located 50 km north of the capital, Kabul.
Afghanistan has been in war since 2001, when an international military coalition led by Washington overthrew the Taliban regime.
And that is because it was linked at the time to Al-Qaeda, which adopted the September 11 attacks of the same year in the United States.
The level of violence in Afghanistan has escalated since the beginning of last May, with the start of the final stage of the withdrawal of US forces by order of President Joe Biden last April, which is scheduled to be completed by next September 11.
