Turkey imposes an administrative fine on WhatsApp

The Turkish Personal Data Protection Authority imposed an administrative fine of 1,950 thousand Turkish liras (235,000 dollars) on the WhatsApp application.

The authority stated in a statement on Friday that it had imposed the fine on the “WhatsApp” application, for not taking the necessary technical and administrative measures to prevent the violation of the processing of personal data.

The authority indicated that it imposed the fine under Article 12 of Law No. 698 relating to the protection of personal data.

The statement added that the WhatsApp application violated the principle of “compliance with the law and the rules of credibility” contained in Article 4 of the said law.
