Turkey enters the electoral silence

Turkey entered the stage of electoral silence, as of 6:00 pm today, Saturday, on the eve of the presidential and parliamentary elections scheduled for tomorrow, Sunday, May 14.

According to Article 49 of Law No. 298 on Basic Provisions for Elections and Voter Registers, the electoral campaign period begins 10 days before the election date and ends at 6:00 p.m. the day before the elections, when the electoral silence period begins.

Until 21:00 on election day, the Supreme Commission for Radio and Television (RTÜK) prohibits any propaganda for parties on radio and television channels, as well as news related to the election results, except for the results that will be announced by the Supreme Election Commission.

Starting at 21:00 on election day, the ban on electoral publishing is lifted, and the Supreme Elections Committee can decide to lift the ban before 21:00 if it deems it necessary.
