In a statement issued by the center, it was reported that the virus was artificially placed on a culture of kidney epithelial cells of the African green monkey.
The delta species was first discovered in India in October 2020 and has since been seen in various parts of the world.
Russian Health Minister Mikhail Murashko reported that with the advent of this variant there was an increase in the number of coronavirus patients in the country.
