Snow begins to fall in the center of Istanbul

Snow began to fall on the center of the European side of Istanbul, accompanied by showers of rain, with the advent of Sunday evening.

Snow began to fall in Gungoren, Bagcilar, Beyoglu, Beylikduzu and Silivri regions.

In the Asian section, snow began to fall in the regions of Kadikoy, Beykoz, Uskudar, Atasehir, Pendak, Kartal and Maltepe.

The Marmara region, northwest of Turkey, is exposed to northern and northwest snowy winds.

Istanbul municipality crews deployed in the city’s neighborhoods, in preparation for any emergency.

Earlier, the governor of Istanbul, Ali Yerli Kaya, called on citizens not to go out in cars except when necessary, as of Sunday evening, due to snow and heavy rain expected in the city.

And Yerli Kaya said in a tweet on Twitter that the data of the Meteorological Directorate indicate that rain and snow are expected throughout the city this evening.

He stressed that the state had taken all necessary measures in this regard, and called on citizens not to go out in cars except in cases of necessity, as of five o’clock in the evening (T.G. +3).​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​
