Magnitude 4.7 earthquake strikes Turkey’s Balikesir

An earthquake measuring 4.7 on the Richter scale hit the western Turkish province of Balikesir on Saturday.

A statement issued by the Turkish Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency (AFAD) stated that an earthquake measuring 4.7 degrees on the Richter scale, centered on the city of “Qarassi” in the state, occurred early Saturday morning.

The statement added that the earthquake occurred at a depth of 14.1 km below the surface of the earth.
