Erdogan and Putin discuss prisoner exchange

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan discussed with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin the exchange of prisoners between Russia and the United States on Wednesday inside Turkish territory.

This came in a telephone conversation that took place between them on Thursday, according to a statement issued by the Presidency of the Communication Department in the Turkish Presidency.

The statement indicated that Putin thanked Erdogan for Turkey’s role in the process of exchanging Russian pilot Konstantin Yurishenko for US Marine Trevor Reid.

President Erdogan praised the role of Turkish intelligence in the exchange of Russian and American prisoners.

He explained that the continuation of dialogue between the intelligence services (with Russia) contributes to reducing the tragedies in the region.

During the call, the two presidents discussed the latest developments related to the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine.

In this regard, Erdogan stressed Turkey’s readiness to take the initiative to end the war between Russia and Ukraine and to mediate for peace.

He stressed that Turkey will continue its efforts to overcome the crisis between its two neighbors (Russia and Ukraine) and to establish peace between them.
