British Health Secretary Matt Hancock has resigned after admitting he did not follow social distancing rules after photos of him cheating on his wife were revealed.

In his resignation letter to Prime Minister Boris Johnson, Hancock said his private life was the last thing he wanted to divert attention from fighting the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak.

“I also apologize to my family and loved ones for putting them in this situation,” said Hancock, who apologized for acting against the rules of the pandemic.

In his written response, Johnson said: “You can proudly stand down for what you have accomplished, not only in fighting the pandemic but also before COVID-19 hits the country.”

Pictures have appeared revealing the couple

The Sun newspaper published security camera images showing a married Hancock kissing also married Gina Coladangelo inside the ministry building on June 25.

It was reported that Hancock appointed his school friend Coladangelo as an unpaid counselor on a 6-month contract in March.

Then he assigned him a task in the management of the Ministry of Health, but he did not inform the concerned units.

“Violated the rules of social distancing”

Hancock, who made a written statement after the news, declared that he would “continue to focus on working to get the country out of the pandemic,” despite admitting he had violated social distancing rules.

On May 6, when the photos that were the subject of the news were taken, the government asked citizens not to hug people outside the home.
