The Israeli “12” channel (privately) reported that “a fire broke out inside a house in the city of Ashkelon, amid suspicions that it was caused by an incendiary balloon being launched from Gaza.”

The channel added: “The fire, which caused property damage, was extinguished, without causing any injuries.”

Until 19:00 GMT, there was no official Israeli comment on the burning of the house and the causes of the fire.

The border between the Gaza Strip and Israel has witnessed a relative calm during the past few days.

Israeli media say that the Palestinians launch “incendiary balloons” from Gaza towards the adjacent Israeli settlements as part of what the Palestinians call “popular resistance”.

Usually, Israel retaliates by targeting military sites in the Gaza Strip.
