Turkish Deputy Foreign Minister Ahmed Yildiz stressed on Monday the need to hold Israel accountable for all its practices that violate human rights and international law.

Yildiz’s statement came in his speech before a hearing held by the International Court of Justice in The Hague, Netherlands, based on a request from the United Nations General Assembly to provide advisory opinions regarding the legal consequences arising from Israel’s policies and practices in the occupied Palestinian territories.

Yildiz explained that Al-Aqsa Mosque is considered one of the most sacred places for Muslims, and that its sanctity must be protected as it is a place of worship for them.

He called on the International Court of Justice to declare Israel’s actions in the occupied Palestinian territories, including Jerusalem, a “violation of international law.”
