Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan participated on Monday in the opening ceremony of a new metro line linking the Sirkeci and Kazlıçeşme districts in Istanbul.

Erdogan said in a speech that with the opening of the new line, the total length of the metro rail system network in the city will rise to 340 kilometers.

He stated that the new line, “Sirkeci-Kazlıçeşme”, is one of the oldest railways in the country, and was considered the backbone of Istanbul’s transportation 153 years ago.

It is noteworthy that the railway line is 8.3 kilometers long and consists of 8 stations, and the trip in one direction takes 20 minutes.

The new generation transportation project includes a pedestrian and bicycle path along the 7.3 km line.
