Today (Wednesday), the Istanbul court resumed the trial of seven Turks accused of helping to smuggle former Nissan boss Carlos Ghosn “in a large box of musical instruments” from Japan to Lebanon via Turkey.
The court is trying to find out the details of how the Lebanese-French citizen accused of corruption in Japan escaped in 2019.
The lawsuit concerned an employee of the private Turkish airline MNG Jet, who allegedly used four pilots and two flight attendants to fly Ghosn from Japan to Lebanon via Istanbul.
The pilots and crew of MNG Jet are charged with “illegal trafficking with a criminal” and face up to eight years in prison.
The court released them on bail last July, but prevented them from leaving Turkey.
Two hostesses were also sentenced to one year in prison for failing to report a crime.
The seven suspects denied the charges against them.
