The US State Department confirmed that it has close relations with the Turkish government, adding that Ankara is “a valuable ally for us.”

This was stated by US State Department spokesman Matthew Miller in his daily press conference while responding to a question about the extent of Washington’s concern that the sanctions imposed on Turkish companies would negatively affect Sweden’s membership in NATO.

In this regard, he said: “I do not think that the sanctions imposed on Turkish companies will have any impact on Sweden’s membership in NATO.”

He added: “We have constructive and close relations with the Turkish government. Turkey is a valuable ally for us and President Joe Biden recently met with his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan.”

Miller stated that the sanctions imposed on Turkish companies have nothing to do with Sweden’s membership in NATO and that Ankara was informed of the American interest in Stockholm joining NATO.

It is noteworthy that the US Treasury Department announced earlier the inclusion of 3 companies based in Turkey and a Turkish citizen on the sanctions list under the pretext of supporting Russia in avoiding the sanctions imposed on it.
