A former German chancellor praises Erdogan’s role in food security

Former German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder praised the role played by Turkey in resolving the Ukrainian grain problem. In his speech at the Twelfth Energy Summit, which was held in the Turkish city of Antalya, Schroeder praised the role played by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan regarding the Russian-Ukrainian war and the resulting grain crisis. Where he stated:

“Erdogan played a fundamental role at this stage, gaining international recognition, and I believe that these efforts will be key to ending the war.”

Schroeder also referred to the difficulties that Europe faces with regard to inflation and energy resources, and added:

“Europe must prepare for the difficulties of living that it will face, especially in the context of high energy prices and inflation. Not only that, the grain crisis also poses a great danger.”

In this regard, Schroeder touched on the importance of energy security, noting the challenges faced by the German economy in securing energy resources, adding:

“Ensuring energy security is necessary to keep energy prices at a reasonable level. In my opinion, the German economy does not have the strength to meet the need for natural gas.”

In a related context, Schroeder referred to the importance of securing natural gas from Azerbaijan, concluding his speech by saying:

“The project of transporting natural gas to Europe via Azerbaijan with the expansion of the network of gas transmission lines will be very important in strengthening Turkey’s role as one of the most important energy centers.”
