Turkish air bridge to relief Pakistanis from floods

The Turkish Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency (AFAD) announced the establishment of an air bridge with Pakistan to provide humanitarian and relief aid in the face of torrential rains.

According to the statement of the Turkish Interior Ministry, 10,000 tents, 50,000 food baskets, 50,000 packages of hygiene and sterilization supplies, and 10,000 parcels of children’s food were sent to the flood-stricken areas in Pakistan.

The statement indicated that relief equipment and materials were sent on board two planes that left Turkey on Saturday.

A team from AFAD will supervise the construction of the camp and the distribution of food.

Today, AFAD will continue to send more aid and relief materials to Pakistan, under the direction of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

Pakistan declared at dawn on Friday a “national emergency” due to floods and monsoon rains.

According to the latest estimates, nearly 1,000 people, including 300 children, died as a result of floods and abnormal monsoon rains, which affected the lives of 33 million people and about half of the country, according to local media.
