Ankara and Kiev discuss grain shipment developments

Ankara and Kiev on Sunday discussed the latest developments in the activities of the Joint Coordination Center in Istanbul on preparations for shipment of grain.

This came in a phone call between Turkish Defense Minister Hulusi Akar, his Ukrainian counterpart Oleksiy Reznikov and Minister of Infrastructure Oleksandr Kobrakov, according to a statement issued by the Turkish Defense Ministry.

The statement said that the ministers expressed their satisfaction with completing the technical work and planning to start shipping as soon as possible after the administrative preparations and the work of the Joint Coordination Center personnel in coordination and cooperation.

On Wednesday, Istanbul witnessed the opening of the Joint Coordination Center to ensure safe shipment of grain from Ukrainian ports.

On July 22, under the patronage of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, a signing ceremony took place in Istanbul for the “Document on the Initiative for the Safe Shipping of Grain and Foodstuffs from Ukrainian Ports” between Turkey, Russia, Ukraine and the United Nations.

The agreement guarantees securing exports of grain stuck in the Ukrainian ports on the Black Sea (Eastern Europe) to the world.
