The Turkish Red Crescent digs 6 water wells in southeastern Sudan

On Monday, the Sudanese authorities announced that they had signed an agreement with the Turkish Red Crescent to drill 6 groundwater wells in the southeastern state of Sennar.

The Sudanese News Agency “SUNA” reported that Sennar State, in compliance with the Sudanese Red Crescent Society, signed an agreement with the Turkish Red Crescent to drill 6 groundwater wells in the state.

“SUNA” reported that the signing took place in the presence of the commissioned governor of Sennar State, Ibrahim Al-Nur, the Secretary-General of the Sudanese Red Crescent Society, Afaf Ahmed Yahya, and a delegation from the Turkish Red Crescent.

The governor of Sennar state said that the state government is seeking to combat thirst, and that these wells will contribute to solving the water problem in a number of villages in the state.

Several Turkish organizations are active in providing humanitarian and development aid in Sudan, most notably the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency and the Turkish Red Crescent.

Relations between the two countries have been developing over the past two decades, specifically since the Justice and Development Party came to power in Turkey in 2002, when it developed an ambitious plan to strengthen communication with African countries.

Since the visit of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to Sudan in December 2017, relations between the two countries have witnessed a wide movement.
