The Turkish Ministry of Defense indicated in a statement on Thursday that its forces have been in Afghanistan for 20 years, and have been supervising the operation of Kabul Airport for six years.
It explained that Kabul Airport, Afghanistan’s gateway to the world, is important to ensure the Afghan people’s security, well-being, and stability.
It added, “Our forces continue to provide the necessary support for the operation of Hamid Karzai Airport after the end of the NATO Resolute Support Mission.”
The contact between Akar and Austin is the second in two days, as the Turkish Defense said on Wednesday that the two ministers had a phone call.
They discussed the developments of the ongoing meetings between the two countries on the airport’s safe operation in the Afghan capital, Kabul, describing the communication as positive and constructive.
