Conservative candidate Ebrahim Raisi is the new president of Iran

Conservative candidate “Ebrahim Raisi” won the presidency of the Republic of Iran, according to official preliminary results of the presidential elections in its 13th edition, which took place on Friday.

Thus, Raisi, the head of the judiciary, became the eighth president of the republic in Iran.

Raisi won the presidency after obtaining 17 million and 800 thousand votes out of 28 million and 600 thousand.

This is according to the official preliminary results announced by the head of the election center, Jamal Araf, in a press conference after most of the votes were counted.

He explained that the conservative candidate, Mohsen Rezaei, received 3 million and 300,000 votes, while the reformist Abdel Nasser Hemati received two million and 400,000 votes.

While the other conservative candidate, Amir Hossein Qazizadeh Hashemi, received one million votes from the votes counted so far.

In light of these numbers, Raisi will have obtained 62 percent of the vote and exceeded the required percentage (50 percent + 1) to win the presidency in the first round.

Raisi received congratulations on his victory from his rivals, the reformist candidate, the former head of the Central Bank, Abdel Nasser Hemmati, and the conservative candidates.

The Secretary of the Expediency Council, the former commander-in-chief of the Revolutionary Guards, Mohsen Rezaei, and the Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Amir Hossein Qazi Zada ​​Hashemi.

In turn, the current President Hassan Rouhani said in a televised statement earlier on Saturday that the winner of the presidency had been decided by the people, pointing out that he would hand over his position to the new president after 45 days.

Four candidates competed in this election, 3 of whom belong to the conservative camp, after 3 names withdrew at the last moment of the race.

It is noteworthy that about 59 million voters are entitled to vote in the presidential elections in Iran.
