The Commissioner-General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), Philippe Lazzarini, said on Sunday that “there is a need for an immediate ceasefire to end the ‘hell on earth’ in the Gaza Strip.”

Lazzarini wrote in a blog post on the organization’s account on the “X” platform, “Stripping the Palestinians of their humanity has allowed the international community to tolerate the ongoing Israeli attacks in Gaza.”

The UN official stressed “the necessity of an immediate ceasefire to end the hell on earth in Gaza.”

Since last October 7, the Israeli army has been waging a devastating war on the Gaza Strip, separating the northern Gaza Strip from the center and south, and leaving, as of Saturday evening, 17,700 martyrs and 48,780 injured, most of them children and women, massive destruction of infrastructure, and an “unprecedented humanitarian catastrophe.” According to official Palestinian and UN sources.
