The Turkish Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency (AFAD) distributes hot food to the needy in the Ukrainian city of Chernihiv, giving them warmth in the cold winter days.

Although the city was subjected to intense attacks last March, at the beginning of the war waged by Russia, and great destruction occurred, it remained inaccessible to the Russian forces.

The war caused great damage to the civilian infrastructure in Chernihiv, located near the border with Belarus.

With the onset of winter, the low temperatures led to the freezing of rivers and lakes in the region.

A mobile kitchen belonging to the Turkish “AFAD” distributes hot meals daily in the city center to those in need who are queuing in front of the truck.

Tatiana (62 years old), who received hot food and tea, expressed her thanks for this help.

She said, “We are grateful to Turkey, as this assistance is important not only for me, but for everyone, because we have been affected by the war.”

For his part, Vitaly Chug said that he lost his job because of the war, and that his mother died of a heart attack as a result of the stress she experienced under the bombing.

He added, “We thank Turkey and everyone who provides assistance to us.”

On February 24, Russia launched a military operation in Ukraine, which was followed by international rejection and economic sanctions on Moscow, which requires Kyiv to abandon plans to join military entities to end its operation, which the latter considers as an “interference” in its sovereignty.
