Turkey participates in the African Constitutional Judicial Bodies Conference

The President of the Turkish Constitutional Court, Zohto Arslan, said on Tuesday that he will present his country’s legal experience during his participation in the Sixth Conference of African Constitutional Judicial Bodies, held in Rabat from November 22 to 24.

This came in a statement by Arslan on the sidelines of the opening session of the conference, in the presence of a number of presidents of constitutional courts in Africa.

Arslan said, “We are here in Rabat to participate in the conference of African bodies, which will last for two days, and we will present the Turkish experience.”

For his part, the President of the Moroccan Constitutional Court, Saeed Ahrai, said, “The conference is a historic moment for interaction between cultures, schools of law and constitutional judiciary to contribute to the global effort to consolidate the standards of the rule of law and the supremacy of the constitution, democracy and human rights.”

Ahari added during the opening session: “The experiences of the participating judicial bodies deserve to be the subject of an exchange of visions with constitutional judicial bodies from other continents.”

He explained, “The convening of the conference in person was achieved after the end of the Corona pandemic measures, the tireless work of the Angolan presidency, and the perseverance of all the organization’s organs.”

In turn, the head of the Angolan judiciary, Lorenda Cardoso, president of the current session of the conference, said, “The convening of the conference is a milestone in recovery after the pandemic.”

“The commission has a noble mission to preserve constitutional governance and the values ​​of democracy,” Cardoso added during the opening session.

She also considered the conference “an opportunity to share best experiences and contributions and build capacities in order to respond to the aspirations of citizens and cooperate with the authorities to implement programs.”

120 participants from the African member courts and constitutional councils and the supreme courts and constitutional courts in Russia and Turkey are participating in the conference as observer members of the conference.

The sixth edition of the conference will discuss the topic “African Constitutional Judicial Bodies and International Law”.
