For 38 years, Turkey has continued its fight against terrorism on its soil, after the terrorist PKK organization committed its first attacks in the country on August 15, 1984.

The organization carried out its attacks in the district of Aruh in the state of Siirt (east) and the district of Shamdanli in the state of Hakkari (southeast), which led to the death of a soldier and the wounding of nine others, in addition to three civilians.

In the terrorist attack in Arwa district, Turkey presented the first martyr at the hands of the terrorist “PKK” organization, Suleiman Aydin, who was performing his military service in the ranks of the border guard forces (Jandarma).

Aydin is from the northeastern state of Erzincan and was martyred when he went to the radio station to inform the specialized units of the terrorist attack.

The residents of Aruh, along with the rest of the Turkish people, did not forget the martyr Suleiman Aydin, whose name was given to the clock towers and major roads in the district.

Since then, the residents of Aruh and Sirte have harbored hatred towards the “PKK”, which was the reason for the name of their state to be mentioned in association with the organization’s terrorism.

The head of the Union of Martyrs and Warriors’ Families, Ismail Shahidoglu, said that the Kurds are among the worst affected by the PKK organization, which claims to defend their rights.

Şahidoğlu added that the security and military authorities in Turkey are relentlessly fighting terrorism and that the Turkish people have suffered a lot from terrorism since 1984.

He stressed that the residents of the region have suffered many scourges due to the attacks of the terrorist “PKK” over the past decades.

Shahidoglu praised the Turkish state’s efforts to combat terrorism, especially the fight against “PKK”, stressing that terrorism “is close to ending and eliminating it.”

He continued, “The tragedies that were in the past (due to terrorism) have now left their place for security and stability.”

He stated that the residents of the area have been deprived over the past decades of moving between villages, cities, and fields, and of going to hospitals in comfort and safety due to the attacks of the organization.

He stressed that these problems and obstacles no longer exist thanks to the Turkish state’s efforts to combat terrorism, and the activity of the “PKK” organization has declined significantly.

Meanwhile, journalist Dia Yarayan, 56, expressed the residents’ annoyance and regret over the association of Siirt’s name with terrorism and violence.

Yarayan added that the terrorist organization has not reached its goals for the past forty years, “and it will not achieve its goals even if it continues to try for another forty years.”

He stressed that Siirt and its residents have suffered a lot from terrorism and the practices of the “PKK” organization, but it has never given up.

Yarayan had mercy on the souls of the martyrs who died in the fight against terrorism, and wished a speedy recovery to the other fighters and injured.

Yusef Yildirim, a resident of Aruh District, said that they hope to eliminate terrorism in the area as soon as possible.

He continued, “The residents of Aruh are keen on warm hospitality and receive guests in the best way possible, in an attempt to change the convictions of their region, whose name has been associated with terrorism.”
