Turkey’s Array Şhamdan qualified for the semi-finals of the men’s 67kg karate competition, securing a medal for his country at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
On Thursday, it was reported that Şhamdan defeated Azerbaijani rivals Ferdowsi Varzaliev on the group stage.

In addition to the Egyptian Ali El-Sawy, and the Japanese Naoto Sago, he lost to the Kazakh Darkhan Asadilov.
He explained that the Turkish player managed to get 6 points to finish second in the first group and qualify for the semi-finals, thus guaranteeing a medal during the Olympics.
He pointed out that Şhamdan, 24, will end the tournament by winning a bronze medal if he loses his next match in the semi-finals.
The match will be held today at 14:15 Turkish time (+3 GMT), where he will face Jordanian Abdul Rahman Al-Masatafa.
