The British Queen, the longest-reigning monarch of the United Kingdom, died at the age of 96, during which she had ruled since she was 26.

Elizabeth II ruled the United Kingdom for a full 70 years.

“The Queen passed away peacefully at Balmoral Palace this evening,” Buckingham Palace said in a statement announcing her death.

The statement indicated that the new King Charles and his wife Camilla, who will be called Queen Consort, will remain in Balmoral this evening and will return to the British capital, London, tomorrow.
