The Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism revealed on Wednesday that the city of Istanbul received nearly 7 million tourists during the first five months of this year and recorded new numbers in May.
According to the ministry’s data, 6 million 923 thousand and 768 visitors visited Istanbul in the first five months of 2024, achieving an increase of 10.31 percent compared to the same period of the previous year.
Istanbul hosted 1,678,832 visitors in May alone, an increase of 11.48 percent compared to the same month of the previous year.
In the list of countries that recorded a number of visitors to Istanbul in May, Russia ranked first with 176,702 visitors.
Germany came in second place, the United States ranked third, Iran fourth, followed by Britain, France and Saudi Arabia.
Istanbul Airport was the first choice for foreign visitors coming to the city, as 1,198,723 visitors arrived in May, representing 72.85 percent of foreign visitors.
