German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas called for an update of the EU-Turkey migration agreement in March 2016.
Maas said in a statement to the German newspaper Welt on Monday that the European Union needs to update the agreement with Turkey.

He added that Turkey has borne plenty of burdens, pointing to the presence of about 4 million refugees on Turkish soil.
In response to a question about the funding that the European Union will provide to Turkey in the event that the agreement is updated.
“I don’t want to mention a specific amount,” Maas said, “but such things are not for free.”
And he added, “Turkey has borne heavy financial burdens as a result of hosting refugees, and relations with Turkey are currently somewhat good.”
On March 18, 2016, Turkey and the European Union reached 3 agreements.

They are related to each other on immigration, readmission of asylum seekers, and visa cancellation for Turkish citizens.
Ankara committed itself to what it should, according to the first two agreements, while Brussels did not do what it was responsible for regarding canceling the entry visa for Turks and other items.
