Erdogan congratulates his Uzbek counterpart on his re-election

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Monday congratulated his Uzbek counterpart Shavkat Mirziyoyev on his re-election as the country’s president.

This came in a telephone conversation between them, according to a statement issued by the Presidency of the Communication Department in the Turkish Presidency.

Erdogan hoped that the results of the presidential elections would be beneficial to the Uzbek people.

He expressed his confidence that the relations between the two countries, which derive their strength from the common history and culture, will become stronger in the coming period, and that the strategic partnership will be further strengthened between the two sides.

He stated that Turkey and Uzbekistan will continue their efforts to improve relations between them in all fields, in a way that contributes to establishing regional security, stability, and prosperity.

On Monday, the Central Election Commission of Uzbekistan announced that Mirziyoyev won again as the country’s president in the elections that took place on Sunday, after receiving 80 percent of the votes, according to preliminary results.
