A strolling Iftar in Canada in the holy month of Ramadan

Alternative activities for Ramadan are being held at mosques closed due to the COVID-19 outbreak in Hamilton, Canada.

Where Iftar meals are distributed to 500 people every Friday during the month of Ramadan.

Due to COVID-19 precautions, strolling Iftars are held in many mosques.

But this year, the Iftar and Suhoor meals that are served in mosques are not served as a whole year across the country, due to COVID-19 measures.

In some mosques, the imams’ prayers and sermons are broadcast live on social media accounts during Ramadan.

While some imams teach religious information through online game apps for children.

“Young Muslims are the Leaders of Tomorrow”

The Muslim Youth Leadership Organization created the second strolling Iftar.

Which began on the first Friday of the month of Ramadan, and will be repeated every Friday during the month of Ramadan.

The head of the organization, Shihab Kaab, said that they are trying to prepare Muslim youths to be the leaders of tomorrow, and he said, “The effort in this organization belongs to them”.

“We offer Iftar meals for all non-Muslims”

The organization’s coordinator, Yasmine Zaghloul, also said that she will distribute 2,000 Iftar meals, 500 meals every Friday during the month of Ramadan.

Zaghloul said: “We offer our fast Iftar to all non-Muslims, and our goal is to share our beauty with the Canadian community as Muslims in this blessed month”.

“We live bitterly in Ramadan”

On the other hand, Abdullah Abdi, Vice President of the Hamilton Central Mosque, where the event was held, said:

“For years, we used to eat Iftar and even suhoor meals in our mosques every Ramadan.

All prayer houses have been closed due to COVID-19, which is why we are living this Ramadan bitterly.

In this mosque every year during the month of Ramadan, Iftar can accommodate 400 to 500 people and Suhoor for at least 50 people.

Weddings, condolences and educational activities were always open to everyone in our mosques, just as in the time of the Prophet.

Mosques are our everything, but we had to organize various events when they were closed due to COVID-19.
