The Iraqi President and Al-Qarahdaghi are looking for peaceful coexistence

Iraqi President Barham Salih and the Secretary-General of the International Union of Muslim Scholars, Ali Al-Qaradaghi, discussed on Monday the importance of establishing the principle of peaceful coexistence between all components and sects.

This came during the Iraqi President’s reception of his guest Al-Qaradaghi at Al-Salam Palace in Baghdad, according to a statement issued by the Iraqi presidency.

The statement stated that “at the beginning of the meeting, current developments in Iraq and issues in the region and the world were discussed.”

He pointed out that “the importance of supporting constructive dialogue and communication in overcoming problems and obstacles was emphasized.”

Consolidating the principle of peaceful coexistence between all components and sects, protecting societal peace, and working to address all outstanding issues, especially the living conditions of citizens and their requirements.

The Iraqi president stressed “the importance of the role of clerics in strengthening ties and bonds, and working to strengthen the social fabric and enhance community security and peace,” according to the statement.

Al-Qarahdaghi is from the Sulaymaniyah Governorate in the Kurdistan region of northern Iraq.

Iraq is a country of many nationalities and sects, and it has been the scene of national and sectarian conflicts over the past decades.

The most severe conflicts occurred between 2006 and 2008 between Sunni and Shiite Muslims, and left thousands of dead and injured between the two sides.
