The Turkish Statistics Institute announced a decrease in home sales in Turkey during January by 37.9 percent compared to the same month of last year, reaching 70,587.
Accordingly, Istanbul had the highest share of home sales as 13,666 houses were sold in Istanbul with a rate of 19.4%.
According to the sales figures, Ankara followed Ankara with 6,635 homes sold, with a rate of 9.4%, and 4,63 houses sold in Izmir, at 5.8%.
The counties with the lowest home sales were Hakkari with 10 homes, Ardahan with 16, and Piper with 31, respectively.
Mortgage sales
Mortgage sales decreased by 74.6% compared to the same month of the previous year, to 10,732.
The share of mortgage sales in total home sales was 15.2 percent.
In mortgage sales, Istanbul ranked first with 2 thousand 338 homes sold and a market share of 21.8 percent.
The counties with the lowest mortgage sales are Ardahan and Bayport, with one home each.
22,268 homes sold for the first time
The number of homes sold for the first time decreased by 38.2 percent in January 2021 compared to the same month a year earlier, to 22,268.
The share of first sales in total home sales was 31.5 percent.
In the first sales, Istanbul had the highest share with 3746 homes sold for the first time at 16.8 percent, followed by Ankara with 1649 homes sold and Izmir with 1233 homes.
48,319 from used home sales
Second-hand home sales decreased by 37.7 percent in January 2021 compared to the same month of the previous year, to 48,319.
In used home sales, Istanbul ranked first with 9,000 920 home sales and a share of 20.5%.
The share of used home sales in the total home sales in Istanbul is 72.6 percent. Ankara also ranked second, with 4 thousand 986 houses sold. Izmir followed Ankara with sales of 830,000 homes.
2,675 houses were sold to foreigners
Housing sales to foreigners decreased by 31.5 percent compared to the same month of the previous year, to 2,675.
In housing sales to foreigners, Istanbul ranked first in January 2021, selling 1,380 homes. It was followed by Antalya with 462 houses, Ankara with 179 houses, Mersin 131 houses, Bursa 75 houses.
