The head of the Turkish delegation to the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu, said on Tuesday that the efforts of Ankara and Doha regarding Gaza deserve appreciation, stressing that the two countries are taking the necessary steps in this regard.
Former Foreign Minister and Member of the Turkish Parliament Çavuşoğlu arrived in Doha to participate in the Qatar Economic Forum and answered journalists’ questions following his speech during a symposium entitled “The Future of the Middle East after the Gaza War.”
Çavuşoğlu stressed Turkey’s support for the mediation of Egypt and Qatar regarding Gaza.
He pointed out that Ankara and Doha give the necessary importance to the Gaza issue, stressing that the two countries are taking the necessary steps in this regard.
He added: “President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced an end to trade with Israel, which continues its brutal massacres in Gaza…Turkey has stopped its trade with Israel, which amounts to about 10 billion dollars.”
He explained that Turkey also intervened in the genocide case filed against Israel before the International Court of Justice.

Çavuşoğlu pointed out that Turkey ranks first among the countries providing humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip.
He continued: “Turkey is doing its part in this regard, and the State of Qatar is taking the necessary steps with regard to humanitarian aid, the status of prisoners, and a ceasefire.”
He praised the ongoing talks between Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan and the Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Qatar, Mohammed bin Abdul Rahman Al Thani, about Gaza and their efforts on this issue.
Qatar, along with Egypt and the United States, is leading mediation to end the Israeli war on Gaza, and succeeded in concluding a truce between Tel Aviv and Hamas that lasted a week until the beginning of last December, and resulted in the exchange of prisoners and detainees between the two parties and the entry of limited amounts of humanitarian aid into the besieged Gaza Strip.
Similar efforts by the three countries have not yet resulted in reaching a new truce, despite repeated meetings between Paris, Cairo, and Doha.
The Israeli war on Gaza, which has been ongoing since October 7, 2023, left tens of thousands of civilian victims, most of them children and women, and massive destruction, which led to Israel being brought before the International Court of Justice on charges of committing “genocide.”
