Turkey on Monday delivers its oral briefing at the International Court of Justice hearings on the legal consequences of Israel’s practices in the occupied Palestinian territories.
In a post on the X platform on Sunday, Turkish Foreign Ministry spokesman Oncu Kaçali said that Deputy Minister Ahmet Yildiz would provide the briefing at the international justice hearing.
He referred to the United Nations General Assembly’s request, through a resolution on December 30, 2022, for the opinion of the International Court of Justice regarding the legal consequences of Israel’s occupation and annexation of Palestinian territories and its measures aimed at changing the demographic composition and status of Jerusalem.
He pointed out that at the end of this process, “legal results will be reached regarding the persecution of the Palestinians,” and noted that 57 countries and international organizations, including Turkey, had previously submitted written briefs to the International Court of Justice.
Monday is the sixth and final day of hearings held by the International Court of Justice regarding the legal consequences of Israel’s practices in the occupied Palestinian territories at the request of the United Nations General Assembly.
In a similar advisory opinion, the International Court of Justice ruled in 2004 that the construction of the separation wall in the occupied West Bank was illegal.
Israel also demanded its removal from all Palestinian territories, including East Jerusalem and its suburbs, along with compensation for those affected, but Tel Aviv did not implement the court’s request.
