A 6.1-magnitude earthquake hit Wednesday northwest of the city of Paraparaumu, southwest of the North Island in New Zealand.
The earthquake occurred at 07:38 pm local time (06:38 GMT), about 50 km northwest of Paraparaumu, at a depth of 57 km, according to Radio New Zealand, quoting the government seismological agency.
The authority added that the strong earthquake spread fear and terror among people, and there was no immediate news of damages in the area.
