Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced that the number of deaths as a result of the two earthquakes that struck the south of the country had reached 16,546 people.
This came in a press statement on Thursday from the state of Kilis on the border with Syria.
Erdogan stated that the number of injuries reached 66,132 people as a result of the two earthquakes.

He stressed that the country is facing the largest earthquake disaster the region has witnessed in history.
On Tuesday, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan declared a state of emergency for a period of 3 months in 10 states affected by the earthquake, namely Adana, Adi Yaman, Diyarbakir, Gaziantep, Hatay, Kahramanmaraş, Kilis, Malatya, Osmaniye and Sanliurfa.
