There is an urgent need to strengthen Turkish-European cooperation

Turkish Trade Minister Mehmet Muş indicated on Wednesday that there is an urgent need to enhance cooperation between Turkey and the European Union in light of the sensitive changes that the world is going through.

This came in a speech he delivered during his participation in the high-level trade dialogue meeting between the European Union and Turkey, which was organized in cooperation between the Federation of Turkish Chambers and Exchanges and the Federation of European Chambers of Commerce and Industry.

Muş explained that there is long-term cooperation between Turkey and the European Union in many areas such as trade, security, migration and energy.

He added that the trade sector constitutes the main pillar in the existing relations between Turkey and the European Union, and that the volume of trade exchange between the European Union and Turkey is expected to reach $200 billion by the end of this year.

Minister Muş stressed that Turkey is doing its utmost to prevent the energy and food crisis from worsening further.

He continued, “The importance of close cooperation between Turkey and the European Union has increased with the start of the Russian-Ukrainian war, and Ankara is making great efforts to bring peace and prevent a food and energy crisis, and through cooperation with the United Nations, Turkey was able to play a major role in reaching an agreement to ship Ukrainian grain to the markets.” Globalism”.

Muş expressed his confidence that the European Union will do its utmost to ensure food security in the world in light of the current geopolitical tensions.

Muş said that the European Union has taken a leading role in the fight against climate change thanks to the European Green Agreement and that Turkey is determined to contribute effectively to global efforts to combat this phenomenon.

With regard to updating the customs agreement between the two parties, Muş said: “Improving the performance of the customs union between the European Union and Turkey is vital to achieving the maximum benefit from trade for both sides.”
