Al-Burhan awards the Turkish ambassador to Sudan a high medal

The Chairman of the Sudanese Transitional Sovereign Council, Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, on Thursday awarded Turkey’s ambassador to his country, Irfan Nazir Oglu, the Order of “The Two Niles” of the first degree, one of the highest Sudanese decorations in appreciation of his efforts to strengthen relations between the two countries.

This came when Al-Burhan received the Turkish ambassador to Sudan at the presidential palace in the capital, Khartoum, according to a statement by the Sovereign Council’s media.

The statement said that Al-Burhan “received Turkish Ambassador Irfan Naziroglu on the occasion of the end of his tenure and awarded him the Order of the Two Niles, first class, in appreciation of his efforts in developing and promoting relations between Sudan and Turkey.”

He added that Al-Burhan “praised the advanced level witnessed by the Sudanese-Turkish relations in all fields.”

The statement quoted Neziroglu as saying that “the stability of Sudan is a priority for Turkey and that Ankara’s clear message is not to interfere in Sudan’s internal affairs.”

He referred to the “distinguished relations between Khartoum and Ankara,” adding: “During my tenure, the relationship between the two countries witnessed a development in the political, economic and agricultural aspects.”

Nazir Oglu pointed out that awarding him the highest honors in Sudan “is a great honor for him and will always remind him of Sudan and its people and the deep-rooted relations between Khartoum and Ankara.”

Since the Justice and Development Party came to power in Turkey in 2002, relations between Ankara and Khartoum have been developing, as the party developed an ambitious plan to enhance communication with African countries.

Bilateral relations have also witnessed a wide movement since the visit of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to Sudan in December 2017, when the two countries signed 22 agreements and memoranda of understanding in many fields.

These agreements and memoranda include education, agriculture, trade, iron and steel industry, exploration, energy exploration, development of gold extraction, construction of silos for grain, health services and electricity generation.
