The Turkish Foreign Ministry said that the visit of the President of the United Nations General Assembly, Abdullah Shahid, to the so-called monument of the alleged genocide in Armenia was “used as a tool for the unilateral Armenian theses.”

In a statement on Wednesday, the ministry stressed the need for people who represent UN bodies to act in a manner that is consistent with the rules of the United Nations, standards and rules of international law, especially the 1948 United Nations Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of Genocide.
She added: “The visit of a witness to Armenia was used as a tool for the unilateral Armenian theses. In this context, a witness visited the so-called monument of the alleged genocide.”
The ministry stressed that it is waiting for a witness “who holds a position that requires justice and impartiality, such as the presidency of the United Nations General Assembly, to act more cautiously and responsibly.”

And she added: “We condemn and reject attempts to falsify historical facts and international law through political manipulation, and Turkey sees the need to address the facts related to the events of 1915 in a comprehensive, just and honest framework.”
