This came during their meeting in the capital, Tripoli, where they discussed “support for economic cooperation” between Turkey and Libya, according to a statement by the Libyan Foreign Ministry.

The statement stated that the two sides also discussed “means of developing cooperation relations between the two friendly countries and ways to enhance them.”

During the meeting, the Turkish official expressed his country’s “full support for the national unity government (..) in their efforts to support the democratic path leading to elections to enhance stability in Libya.”

Due to differences between Parliament and other official institutions over the electoral law, presidential elections could not be held on December 24, 2021, as oil-rich Libya has been in a power struggle for nearly a decade.
