This came in a press statement made by Giwana on Sunday before his participation in the meeting of NATO foreign ministers held in the German capital, Berlin.

He explained that discussions with the Turkish side took place yesterday evening regarding the possibility of Finland and Sweden joining NATO, and that those discussions were “transparent and constructive.”

He continued, “Turkey is an important ally, and Ankara has informed us of its concerns and reservations about the accession of these two countries to the alliance.”

And he added: “If Finland and Sweden decide to join NATO, we will welcome them and work to find consensus on this matter.”

Yesterday, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said that any country that will be a member of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization “NATO” should not support the terrorist “PKK/YPG”.

Cavusoglu pointed out that Sweden and Finland offer very public support to the PKK and its Syrian arm, the YPG, despite all warnings, which reflects negatively on the feelings of the Turkish people.
