On Wednesday, the Jordanian Ministry of Energy signed a memorandum of understanding with the Turkish company Solvest to explore and prospect for copper ores and associated minerals in the areas of Wadi Abu Khashiba and Ghor Fifa in the south of the Kingdom.

Energy Minister Saleh al-Kharabsheh said in a press statement after the signing that the memorandum is important to give the sector its “right” to exploit natural resources and focus on manufacturing industries and attracting investments.
The project will be in Wadi Abu Khashiba, according to the minister, on a land area of 20 square kilometers.
Studies have shown the presence of copper ores in good quantities and concentrations, while the area of Ghor Fifa is about 28 square kilometers.
During the 12-month term of the Memorandum of Understanding, the company will conduct several exploration studies and prospecting.
With the aim of evaluating the quantity and quality of copper mineral reserves and associated minerals and determining the economic feasibility of exploiting them.

The Energy and Minerals Regulatory Authority had previously said that the mineral resources strategy for the year 2025 aims to raise the contribution of the mining sector.
To reach 11 percent of GDP from 7.7 percent in 2019.
