The World Health Organization announced that it is seeking to find funding for 18 hospitals in and around Idlib, Syria, after international organizations recently cut off their support for them.

The organization’s media office said in a statement on Tuesday that the organization had received reports that some hospitals in the region would end their activities due to a lack of financial resources.

“The World Health Organization will continue to support hospitals and health facilities in northwest Syria to deliver medical assistance to the more than 4 million people currently living in the conflict zone,” the statement said.

“The World Health Organization and its partners are seeking funding to prevent the closure of the hospitals they support in northwest Syria,” he added.

At the end of last year, international organizations that were providing support to hospitals in and around Idlib did not renew the support contracts, which led to problems with financial resources and equipment in 18 hospitals.

After the subsidy was cut, thousands of people in the area were deprived of health services, and hospitals were forced to provide services at reduced capacity due to a lack of equipment.
