On Thursday, the United Nations announced that food aid in Ethiopia’s northern Tigray region had reached an “all-time low”.
It said more than 50,000 children were suffering from severe acute malnutrition in the latest sign of the growing crisis amid efforts to end the country’s nearly 14-month war.

The organization said that stocks of food aid and fuel are “almost completely depleted” in the region, which has a population of about 6 million people, according to the Associated Press.
A government blockade was imposed in late June 2021 on the territory to prevent supplies from reaching the Tigray People’s Liberation Front forces fighting the Ethiopian federal forces.
Last week, the United Nations said an estimated 400,000 people were living in famine-like conditions in Ethiopia’s Tigray region.
Violent clashes erupted on November 4, 2020, between the Ethiopian army and the Tigray People’s Liberation Front.
This is after government forces entered the region in response to an attack on an army base.

The conflict has displaced hundreds of thousands, and more than 60,000 have fled to Sudan, according to observers, while Khartoum says that their number has reached 71,488 people.
