On Wednesday, the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs offered condolences to Sudan over the victims of the collapse of a primitive gold mine yesterday in the west of the country.

The ministry said in a statement published on Wednesday that it had received with great sadness the news of the death of 38 miners in West Kordofan State.
The Turkish Foreign Ministry wished God’s mercy for the souls of the victims and patience and solace for their families, and conveyed its deepest condolences to the friendly and brotherly Sudanese people.
On Tuesday evening, the Sudanese Company for Mineral Resources Limited (government) announced the death of 31 (the number later increased) of traditional miners as a result of the collapse of a primitive gold mine in West Kordofan State, in the west of the country.
For more than a decade, traditional mines have spread to extract gold in various regions of Sudan, where people help workers dig the ground and break stones to extract gold ore.

Government agencies estimate the number of people working in traditional mines at about two million people, who produce about 80 percent of the country’s production, which is about 80 tons annually.
